Little By Little
The shots ring out
one, two, three...
continuously
ringing in the ears of
the families who are affected
by them, thousands of miles away.
We are seven billion strong,
but divided
and confined to a single rock
Our number decreases
little by little
with every shot
but life goes on
for most of us
and the rock
will consume
and it never happened.
Ignoring is the easiest way
to be unafraid
that your life could be changed
by those far away gun shots.
but why is it needed,
this division, this fighting?
Do we think we can win someday?
rid the other side of all its fighters
and live peacefully
due to the bloodshed?
maybe sometimes
words are better than actions.
maybe words
could save this rock
from drowning in the blood
of its inhabitants.
