Broken Lives

A pictures worth a thousand words,
When all they can ask is why:
they see and feel but then, can't even try
wish they could fly away and join the birds
but around the anckles a chain keeps them tethered in pain,
why do this to a child,
what cloud and rain could fog a brain
to destroy the innocent and mild,
so when they show you the,
scorched and torn picture of their broken lives
won't you please look them in the eyes,
and pay them their words
