Barriers
Here I am, sitting on the other side of this glass wall I propped so long ago.
Twiddle my thumbs. Cross my legs. Let loose a sigh.
I feel everything rattle in my breath as I watch you all on the other side.
And you, your beautiful, blissful selves make me flush with envy.
Oh, how I wish I could shatter this wall. I wish I could enjoy the day with you all.
I wish.
And your shining faces make me wear this sad smile until it wears me down.
I can no longer stand to look at you.
You, the ones that made me happy for those fleeting moments.
So caring and gentle in meaning and so innocent in manner. The reality is you never even knew.
I love you.
I love you all, you wonderful beings of boisterous happiness and silent anguish.
You magnificent specimens of hope and despair.
You were the epitome of life in my eyes, when they were open.
I only wish I had been open with you about everything.
But I’m stuck, running my fingers along the smooth glass of this pernicious wall, wearing this sad, sad smile.
