Society
She used to be beautiful
With endless flows of care
A sweet yellow dress
And flowers in her hair
Sensibility and grace
With a timeless cigarette
Reminded of the men
She rather would forget
Hair with shine and tidiness
Which ceased to ever curl
A face of a stone and anguish
Upon a shattered girl
She used to be beautiful
When the world was safe and sound
When strangers were friends
And the lost were always found
The mood was more simplicity
Than complex and insincere
Where the darkness and spiders
Were the only thing to fear
She used to be beautiful
When rampant were the wild
And relations commonly consisted
Of being meek and mild
And the boy who lived across the street
Was as beautiful as she
When small town talk and kisses
Caused sweet ecstasy
And the plans they simply made
To fill their vacant night
Blanket with the stars
To provide a glow of light
And the day they solemnly ended
And she cried herself to sleep
When emotions and love
Traveled deeper than skin deep
She used to be beautiful
Before they hurt her soul
With alcohol and movies
And good ole rock ‘n roll
With pressure and rejection
And youthful magazines
With high-stake expectations
And cut-off blue jeans
With anthems of a lovers night
And notions to forget
With boys who rarely knew her name
And never would regret
With melodies of sadness
And feeling all alone
By living life so empty
With a never-present home
With implications of suicide
And endless flow of hate
Where she was taught to live
And to discriminate
She used to be beautiful
With her eyes as sweet as gold
Where lovers were not fighters
And she knew to grow old
Before she faced a hardship
In her tainted reality
Before she felt the grip
Of our society
She used to be beautiful.
