The Cathedral
Stillness.
Warmth emanates from sepia candles,
melting away the outside world.
white noise fades
into blackness.
silence.
breathe holy incense.
father, son, and holy spirit interlace their velvet fingers in yours,
guiding you like a shepherd does his lamb.
kneel.
eyelids slide close,
hands gently clasped.
breathe.
sacred air fills your soul,
cleansing you.
embrace.
religion holds you in its arms,
cradling you like a baby.
rise.
the outside world beckons;
you must leave the sanctuary,
you must leave
the stillness.
