Grower
It’s a funny thing walking outside
My very own shell shock-culture shock
What a c*** block
To be afraid of the great big world
When this is the age
Right here
The world is my stage
Right now
My runway
My dance floor
It feels like homework and bill
Taking out the trash and vacuuming
But oh! This is the age
“Shouldn’t you be concurring?”
Conquer what?
A page?
A blunt?
An Orgasm?
Maybe today will be the day I pick out my sexuality
Or pierce something like my intestines
I could tattoo my aura
Yet here I am
As scared as a scared human being
Because I am as human as we come
I can speak
I can chew
I can fear
Please sister, do not doubt my capability simply because
I am a human who is not you
Please brother I’m not a stranger who may be checked into a box
I am your sister
I can drive
I can see
I can feel
With hands and
With an abstract, non-scientific, non-measurable soul
Which is also not yours
I’m not strange because of my height or my heart
I’m strange because you have made me a stranger
I am your sister please know me
Please don’t yoke me with your standards
Which are perfectly pleasurable to you because
You are you
