Brighton?
Just another hot day,
Roasting ‘cuz the schools won’t pay,
Paula begs, “Find literary devices in a poem,”
They answer, “What about Shel Silverstein,”
and “Can we use our own?”
I forgot where I was but I remember the path,
Suspended license and another credit for math.
Backwards “Stairway” leads to Hell,
But have I ever believed in the subliminal?
She’s all smiles, her name is Brighton,
Never heard her gossip or complain.
Don’t mistake, she isn’t fake,
She doesn’t follow trends,
and our juxtaposition is almost too great.
Seiter asks, “Who really rules the people?”
And his cynicism causes every soul to question,
But no one answers.
Who rules you?
