Apple of my Heart
You tore me down
Where am I now?
Little pieces, cut and chopped,
Big logs, sliced and measured?
Or am I no substance?
Floating impossibly, throughout time
And space?
Please answer,
But first listen.
My voice is quite quaint.
I know, it’s true.
My family has shrunk,
And over the years,
I see less and less,
But in this town
They are trying so hard.
But you tore me down.
I saw the neighbors,
What a frightful look they
Happened upon their faces.
You tore me down,
You hurt more than me.
What is so wrong with an eartheal tree?
I guess so much.
I was once a nice apple,
A beauty of sorts.
All you want is a pool,
Filled with chemicals.
Oh har-har,
Silly me.
Chemicals fill the planet,
Not trees!
Spare me please,
Don’t cut me down.
You already did.
I guess you’d rather drown.
