the magic man
the magic man says he's sorry
ask him what he's sorry for and
he says
for
vanishing
you have to understand
it was only part of the act
the audience wants a good show
you ask, but what about me
what about what i want
the magician grins
golden teeth look like
tiny suns
says you can have the world if you want it
then
he waits for applause
forgets you were once his assistant
you know all his secrets
but he sees your hesitance in the crystal ball
dancing like a naked gypsy in the glass
honey, says the magic man, you look beautiful in that dress
and you brighten like a firework
beautiful is the magic word
you step closer to him
he steps closer to you
but his top hat falls off
like it was shot
look down at the hat
see the white rabbit in there?
his name's Love
see, you foolish girl
it was just another act
he was only talking about a
rabbit when
he said forever
