Finding Strength
I was not blessed
with super powers.
I cannot block
speeding trains.
I cannot summon
hurricane winds.
I cannot dodge
tumbling rocks.
If only, I sigh,
if only I possessed
the physical strength.
I was not born
with confidence.
I cannot refuse
begging tears.
I cannot resist
bargain prices.
I cannot avoid
decadent sweets.
If only, I sigh,
if only I possessed
the mental strength.
So scoff at me
or pity me.
I can create
a thousand excuses
for why I cannot do
the things I wish to do.
But I am not hopeless!
I do, indeed, possess a strength.
It helps me do
the things I promise to do.
So when they ask,
I will have no excuses.
It’s up to me to be drug free.
