Where I'm From
I’m from green valleys and steep slopes
I’m from long family hikes through the fall colors
wet rocks underfoot
I’m from cool mist, wet skin and waterfalls
I’m from the top of mountains,
the world laid out below you as a painted picture,
the smell of pine,
intoxicating
I’m from long beaches that lay beneath jagged cliffs
I’m from light brown sand, the sharp, pungent odor of salt,
the taste of the Pacific as the music of the waves pounds out a beat in the background
I’m from a bustling city near a quiet forest
I’m from fresh salmon, potatoes, apples
flavors I’ve learned to love
tastes that dance on my tongue
I’m from giant trees and rushing creeks
I’m from deep, crystal clear lakes and silent caves,
the appearance of gloom,
envelopes you in peace and coziness
I’m from rain, peace, beautiful nature
I’m from the slow decline of the sun ending the day
