Protection or Beauty?
Hopes and dreams
Written on the soles of his shoes
They fade more rapidly
With each steady step he takes.
Walking down a flight
of narrow stairs
He clings to the railing,
An angel sent to him.
His face is permanently
Locked on the floor,
And his eyes hidden behind
A pair of sunglasses.
Like a mask he wears them
Inside and out, night and day
Until he slowly adapts to
The dulled colors.
Until he forgets
Just how brilliant
The world can be.
