Behind the Soul
Somewhere, behind the soul,
Far away from its windowless walls,
There is a choice we all must face.
We must yield to its call.
It is filled with beauty, love, and joy,
With uncared for caring and penniless giving.
It is forgiveness and friendship and warmth.
It is what makes life worth living.
But there is another side to this siren.
It is filled with greed and hate and vengeance,
As if the River Styx ran free,
But clothed in silk, not shrouded like menace.
These opposites wait.
Two sides of a coin.
Two halves of a half-moon.
Both tempting different ways,
Saying you must choose soon.
If you choose the sun-lit path,
Life will be hard, but always full.
If you yield to dark, life will offer all pleasures of Earth,
But you will be empty.
These two beings cannot forever lie together,
One must stay, the other must be a closed door.
Light and dark will forever war for your soul,
But the choice will always be yours.
