The Locket
Fear retreats deeper,
And passions sway from view.
Love's most sacred keeper
Has lost its golden hue.
Its chain is slowly breaking,
Its lock succumbs to rust.
Nature is now taking
And returning it to dust.
Memories are fading,
Its pictures frayed and scratched.
Time is done debating.
Love has finally been matched.
A single tear has fallen,
The hand the held is burnt.
The end has now befallen,
And the locket returns to dirt.
