Breath
Breathe. That’s all I have time to think about.
In and out. In and out.
I can barely move because of the pain.
In and out. In and out.
A strangled cry escapes my chapped lips, whoops.
A tear blurs my vision.
In and out. In and out.
No crying, just breathing.
In and out. In and out.
“Crying makes it worse,” my mother’s words.
Coughing fills the otherwise still room.
In and out. In and out.
One huge breath, and another fit of coughing.
In and out. In and out.
Hopefully nobody awakes due to my misery.
I knew this was a stupid idea, I curse myself.
In and out. In and out.
Why, why me? That’s all I ask.
In and out. In and out.
Three words: Animals, Allergies, and Asthma.
