Proud
My heart may be soft
But it makes me proud
It’s still beating strong
Even after being broken
It’s been walked all over
Stabbed repeatedly from behind
Yet against all the odds
The steady rhythm can be heard
Like the crickets at night
You can’t heart it until silence descends
Who knew such a small organ
Could be capable of so much pain?
Something so well protected
Can be ripped apart without a touch
Battle scars from unseen wounds
Tough scar tissue formed from being abused
It may not heal fast
But it can never be completely broken
Oh yes, my heart may be soft
But it makes me proud
