The words I scream
Are non-existent
They never pass my unforgiving lips
It’s only the sound of the rain
That keeps the silence from consuming us
In my head I hear the untuned piano keys
Your hands playing that song over and over
The twisted, unpitched melody haunts me
Reminding me of the nostalgia I have
For the blooming red roses of our promises
But then our lies became thick vines
Entangling us, choking us
I’m suffocating
But I continue to lay here
Next to you
Tucked into this silence
As we let the piano keys
Put us to sleep
With their trembling lullaby.
