Autumn
Here I sit, petting little brown eyed Mayzy.
The cars rush past
Behind me and the house.
And I wonder when the supper being prepared in the kitchen seen through the windows behind me will be finished.
The cars rush past.
And I watch as the clouds dim the setting sun, plunging me into welcome darkness.
The cold settles over me.
And I wonder if I should feed the cats dancing in the falling leaves.
The cold settles over me.
And I watch as the fluorescent light at the barn slowly lights up the world for a brief second before going –bzttt- and letting the dark back in.
I get up and go inside.
The world continues with out me.
