Everyday Numbness
Sometimes I get so caught up in the monotony and routine that I feel like a robot.
Going through the motions, as I do a math problem here and there,
Brush my teeth,
Curl my hair
I fall into a steady pattern of sameness.
Like gear gauge ridges
Barely noticing movement
Clock hands and lock niches
But I enjoy not having to think during these exercises.
As I mull over what I should have said
My brain exploding with thoughts
Wondering why I’m not dead
These moments of mechanic study and multitasking
Erase the sharp turns, curbs and the tedious
Oftentimes when I finish or get to where I’m going
I don’t remember anything previous.
