Little Dead Daisy
I needed a break from life
So, I took a walk outside
And saw a little daisy
Waving at the sky
It wasn't like it should be though
Bright, Bouncy, and free
Instead it's withered, shattered, dry
Lonely as can be
I've seen this flower blooming
Every summer up till now
This year it seems I've come too late
It's dead and cold and brown
I used to wait until the spring
To watch tiny sprouts grow out
And a summer's sun would warm the air
Releasing shoots from the ground
Petals clasping, poignant, tender
Ready to unfurl
Rising up with simple splendor
Doing pirouettes and twirls
Why should I have missed it now
These recent days gone by
It seems it's always been so vital
Teasing at the sky
I've missed a journey this summer
Only of a tiny daisy's growth
But this is one more blossom
That I will ever know
