Le chemin du ciel
Darkness falls, and I see your face
Staring into my grey, cold eyes
That are empty and lost-
Withered from years of seeing things no being should see.
A storm is brewing, and I see your face.
You crave acceptance.
You yearn for love.
A tear trickles down your cheek,
But no more fall,
For the sadness inside you has ceased.
The sun rises, and I see the flaws of your face-
Slashed skin, bloody nose, busted lip.
I should have known he was no good for you.
I should have protected you.
I failed you.
I look back at you,
And turn to face the sun.
And as I depart,
I glance back at your grey, cold eyes one last time.
