Something Real
I want to hear you whisper sweet and slow,
“I never want to let you go.”
Want my response to be,
“I know.”
Want to know you mean it,
not just another throw-away moment.
Like so many before you.
And then I’ll need some follow through,
some living proof.
Even if you hold me so tightly you smother me,
at least I’ll know you care,
That there is someone out there who gives a damn,
who understands.
And then I just want you to hold me,
until we fall asleep.
And I want to wake up in your arms,
and not care what I look like.
Because I’ll know you love me no matter what,
and not be afraid to trust you.
Because I’ll know you won’t let me down,
won’t let go.
Like all of them before.
I want to hear you whisper sweet and slow,
“I never want to let you go.”
Want my response to be,
“I know.”
