Hurting
The gray shadows of darkness and despair shield her from the light,
Lost in a world of horror and hopelessness, lost in a battle of courage and fright.
Her cries of pain are constant, as are her attempts to flee,
It seems so impossible, so out of reach, but all she wants is to be free.
She tries and tries to help herself; she tries to get away,
But she keeps coming back to him, she just cannot escape.
She misses the girl she once was; she misses her happiness, her smile,
But that girl is long gone; she has been for a while.
She was hurt – inside and out – she was defeated, worn out, sore,
There's no use trying to find her, she's not there anymore.
