It is raining
The hooves of water horses smashing into the damp grass
My heart longs to bound outside and play like a toddler in the puddles
But my mind, the concerned mother, worries my heart will catch a cold.
It is summer
My friends are playing tag right outside my window
I can hear their youthful giggles through the glass
My heart aches to play with them, to laugh and run with them
But my mind is scared I’ll trip and get hurt.
It is snowing
The crisp flakes of white beauty float like seagulls on a beach
My heart wants so badly to build a snowman
But it is cold outside, and my mind fears my fingers will freeze.
My heart wants to love you
But my mind fears my heart will break.
It is autumn
The world is not in color anymore
My heart still wishes to jump in the leaves
But it keeps quiet and stays inside with my mind
Looking out at the now black and white world.
My world lost its color
Because my mind won my heart.

The author's comments:
We often fail to pursue our feelings due to the fear and indecisiveness of our mind.
