One Sip of a Sunset
Bring me the sunset in a cup
One sip will numb my soul
I’ll forget the pain of losing you
I’ll forget the somber cold
When you passed on,
there was a ribbon of light,
shimmering,
still connecting you to this world.
But death swooped down
and severed your ties
and lifted you out of my arms.
Bring me the sunset in a cup
One sip will quench my tears
I’ll forget the lingering loneliness
I’ll forget my echoing fears
When you still lived,
you danced in the sun,
twirling
and laughing as you took my hands.
Your smile soothed me
and your eyes dared me
and your voice
trickled over my skin.
Bring me the sunset in a cup
One sip will still my cries
I’ll forget the haunting memories
I’ll forget the light fading from your eyes
