Uncivilization
We’re leaning over a rusted railing
High up on a ghetto apartment building landing.
Swallowing up the din of the city,
Wishing for the noises of nature,
Yet all we can hear is the sounds of human nature,
As sirens mingle with car alarms,
Created by cars not worth stealing,
And I can’t help but wonder,
When it was that civilization became so uncivilized.
