Autumn
Fall
esteemed in its rarity
shiver as winter plucks the leaves
one by one
off feeble branches
lowly autumn
bleached in the whiteness of
the fallen clouds
of December
decorated in the wealth of springs fruit
a red-tailed hawk tears
through a chilled backdrop
of blue
hunting for lonely
squirrels who hide beneath grey stones
where the darkness creeps
a deer is silent
I sing the songs of autumn
the apples too thick and heavy
to hold
the wind too frequent to overlook
Acorns
roll like heads
and rest
nestled in the cracks
of wooden decks
