Demons of the Night
Their eyes crept from the darkness
Pupils penetrating
Under the sound light of a quiet moon
Cold as the day.
Then the rowing,
Noiseless rowing
The paddling of swift oars
through a luminescent bay.
They sulked through the night
hidden in pools of darkness
blending into the shadows
staring down their prey.
I’d know they were coming
but not as quickly, as fierce
rapping unceasingly at my window
peering through to where I lay.
The glass shattered
spewing across the carpet,
their hands closing on my neck
as I screamed for a delay.
“Go from here, demons of
the night! You do not worry me!”
Their grip tightened,
and those were the last words I could
