rooftops;
I dangled my toes off of the precipice
And drank in the greying sky that seemed
So heavy with all of the sadness in the world.
It froze my blood and it dried out my mind
But I welcomed the numbness; oxygen is
Always wasted on the things I write that
I’d like to think are decent but crumble when
I press too hard on their limbs anyway.
The cars rushed by and I wanted to think that
They were all driving on the highway of life
When they were probably all running on caffeine,
No sleep, no hopes, no love, and no purpose.
I felt like crying and wondered how far it was
To land my feet on the ground and place my
Heart up in the sky but I didn’t even dare try.
Is this how God feels?
