The Zoo
His sun is no longer his own
The candy colored ones who whisper in his ear
Cocktails blur by, consuming his being
Alas, there is no one there and scraps of recollection
Lay untouched
The pigeons gawk through white walls
He begs futilely their mercy, amid the acidic utterance
Their wings grow skinny and frail, breaking the devilry, yet pushing the war further
Furiously the cougar claws away the clinging remnants
Succumb to the elephant’s death
Taken by screams of ignorance
Breathe in the scorpion’s elixir
Accept his hummingbird messenger
They crowd, they surround
And he is consumed
