Define: Yourself
The shoes you wear don’t define you.
The clothes you wear don’t define you.
So what does define you?
Your personality,
It defines you.
Your morals,
Those define you.
The way you see things,
That defines you.
Your appearance doesn’t define you.
You define you.
You define you,
Not others.
So why do we let them define us?
Wearing dark colors doesn’t make you emo.
Wearing baggy pants doesn’t make you a thug.
Wearing a low cut shirt doesn’t make you a dirty girl.
Wearing skinny jeans doesn’t make you gay.
So why do we make these judgments?
Why do we make these stereotypes?
We blame society.
But guess what,
We are society.
And we do judge people,
People we don’t even know.
Every.
Single.
Day.
Our words hurt.
But just because society speaks,
Doesn’t mean you have to listen.
Because,
Being Asian doesn’t make you a genius.
Being blonde doesn’t make you stupid.
Being a red head doesn’t make you soul- less.
Characteristics.
That’s what makes you the way you are.
NOT all these stereotypes.
NOT all these judgments.
Break past,
Break down,
Kick, scream, and punch,
The wall of stereotypes.
They don’t know you.
You are not what they say you are.
You are You.
You make yourself.
You get out there and make it known.
Hold your head high.
Because,
You define yourself.
