As a Band
We all walk in,
Single and alone.
We unload our bags,
Go find our folders,
And pick up a case.
We warm up,
Flats and sharps filling the air,
Each individually
Hot air flowing strong,
All playing separate notes.
He raises his arm
And the room falls silent
Everyone knows what is about to begin
Not a sound is made
Quietly waiting in anticipation…
His arm quickly begins to fall
The baton moving violently
And a collective breath fills the room
Single and in perfect unison
Which quick gives way to the melody.
We play on
All working as one
Section by section
Piece by piece
Together.
