My Brainless Heart
But I do not love
I do not get butterflies
Their edges whispering against
The soft cavern of my stomach
I do not get light-headed
At the thought of seeing my dear
At the end of the never-ending day
My heart does not thumpity-thump
In my chest
But he
He ruined it
For, now
The butterflies nest
A nervous flutter
When I see the scar on his eyebrow
And I get light-headed
At the idea of brushing by him
In the hallway
And my heart beats a drum
At the very image of him
Silly boy.
He should know
That I don’t love
