Thievery
Give back what you have taken,
Oh thou of ignorant mind.
Return to me
That which you don’t know you hold.
Release me from your grasp,
Oh thou who tortures me so.
Let me be—
Unknowingly though you wear the conqueror’s crown.
Open now your eyes,
Oh thou whose restless heart is closed.
See what damage dangles from your fingertips
After dipping them in the wrong (in an effort to extract the right).
Grasp my hand as I reach,
Oh thou who backs away.
Read the pages of my book
And (fulfill me:) circle details you thought you understood.
Meet my gaze,
Oh thou who thinks they know.
“Remember thy Creator”
And keep the candle a-glow.
Give back what you have taken,
Oh thou of many admirers.
Return to me
That which you don’t know you hold:
Return to me
What I meant not to relinquish.
