And the Wind Keeps Blowing

And I just laid there, under those twinkling stars.
I heard the commotion around me but I just looked right on up.
Thought about all those things,
Those things that got me to where I was today.
I thought “This is it”
But I couldn’t help but think if my life was worth it,
All those seconds spent staring at pretty girls,
All those shots of fire burning my throat on the way down,
All that smoke filling up lungs, all those pills numbing away what was real,
All of that, was it worth it.

It got harder to breathe in, got harder to see those pretty white lights above.
I heard the sirens shrieking in the air, voices echoing through the air, but I just looked right on up
Happiness is a hard thing to come by, it’s like life is the pursuit of happiness.
But what is it that makes you happy? Money? Women? The finer things in life?
Nah, those should just be the side attractions,
Your happiness should be determined by if you can look at yourself in the mirror,
And be happy with what you see.

And then I just laid there, under those enlightening lights.
The cool breeze of that summer night caressing my scalp, the grass flowing with it,
The pounding of his heart slowed, and with that, he said “It’s only when you’re close to death,
To know if you’re happy. Make sure you know… you know that it won’t be up to debate if you were.”
