Shot and Missed
I’ll cup my hands to catch your tears
and they fall through to overflow
in salty lakes you fill with fears
And painful screams “Don’t leave, don’t go!”
But a worthless, caress, touch
a brush of nothing provides no more
and helplessly empty hands clutch
at the gold of a closing door
seemingly left entirely behind
bereft of all that I hold dear
I’ll watch your pain writhe and wind
and distant footsteps I’ll now hear
maybe I was never meant to assist
invisible and worthless, selfish words
of one whom sadness shot and missed
and so the bullet went hurtling towards
And hit another whom was so clean
and wounded another who was really spared
a future no one could have foreseen
as you walk on and leave the one who cared
