Utterly Human
She was much too human much too often
With porcelain skin
And fountains of blood coursing beneath it
Pumped through a heart
That beat against her will
Her body was utterly human
From her frail wrists, dashed with hopelessness
To her too-big hips
Ringed with lonely nights
Her body was utterly human
But her soul was an eagle
Beating its wings against a skeleton cage
Her heart was pathetically human
Ridges and cracks broke open
And throbbed painfully
In between hellos and goodbyes
Exchanged between
Friends and lovers that were only
Utterly
Pathetically
Human
She was much too human much too often
With a soul too big for her body
As she lay in bed
With shameful, secret, human tears
Running down her cheeks
She wished to be anything
But utterly
Pathetically
Human
