Sandstorm
You're asleep in your bed,
dreaming of the next day to come,
not knowing it'll be your last.
you dream of splashing around in the pool,
and eating mint-cookie crumble ice-cream.
but you're awakened.
you're awakened by that terrible sound;
the sound of gusting winds,
screaming children,
and your dreams forever ending.
your heart is pounding.
your blood is boiling.
your palms are sweaty.
you're scared,
alone.
"Is this it? Is this the end?"
you close your eyes and pray.
all you have is hope;
hope that you'll go on.
you're only eleven years old,
but stronger than ever now.
it's over,
the storm,
it's done.
you open your eyes and look around,
the tears begin to form.
your home,
destroyed.
your family,
gone.
"I have no one."
but you're wrong.
you have God,
and the others who survived with you.
stay strong,
and strength will rebuild its self over time from this treacherous storm.
