Shame on me
Fool me once,
shame on you.
That's not what a 'best friend'
is meant to do.
Lie and lie and lie some more.
Seems like you've practiced
this before.
Could you have rehearsed behind my back?
You say "Morgan, cut me some slack?"
My tender heart heaves
a shuddering cry.
You say your sorry,
so do I.
Fool me twice,
shame on me.
You weren't who you said you'd be.
I trusted once more
consulting the core
of my heart to reassure myself.
Now you've taught me to leave my heart on the shelf.
I knew you would lie.
And often I cry,
blaming myself for the friendship that died.
You have moved on.
A 'best friend' indeed.
I wish you the best, I hope you succeed.
Still forward you go.
And here I stay,
glued to the past and my own loyal ways.
