Justify That
Say what you will about violence, hatred, and passion
Say what you will about guns and knives
Say what you will about God’s plan or Natural Selection
But I dare you to justify your right to steal a life
How do you justify stealing a mother, a father, a brother, a sister, a friend, a lover?
How do you justify stealing memories that were never created?
A son grows up to idolize a man he lost too soon
A daughter grows troubled, knowing too well that time cannot be paused or reversed
A father grows old with the knowledge that he outlived his only son
A mother grows tired, for a part of her is gone
Through hatred or passion
How do you justify stealing a life that was never yours to steal?
How you justify silencing a heartbeat that was not yours to silence?
Say what you will about violence, hatred, and passion
Say what you will about guns and knives
Say what you will about God’s plans or Natural Selection
But I dare you to justify
Leaving a son fatherless
Taking a daughters first love
Ruining Happily Ever After
A sister grows up missing something she can’t put her finger on
How the hell can you justify
Stealing my memories before I had the chance to create them?
How the hell can justify
Stealing my brother before I had the chance to meet him?
How the hell can you justify
Ripping him away from the ones who loved him most, leaving them broken?
You can’t.
