The Puppet
Your kisses left me with
Tingling nerves that
Ached with a scarlet warning light.
Wake up.
Your hands brushed me with a
Bloated ego and
Narcissistic style that I
Somehow found
Enchanting.
Wake up.
My world spun on its toes and
Landed flat on its back
As your manipulative aura
Tugged at my arm and said,
"Don't worry, you'll be fine."
"Please? It would make me happy."
Wake up.
Your schemes and tricks echoed
With the clever use of late night
Close conversations,
Entangling me in their looming
Presence.
Wake up.
I was a puppet.
Dancing with exasperated sweat on a
Wooden face that found it could
Conceal any emotion with
A layer of bubblegum lipgloss
And a bouncing ponytail.
Wake up.
But sometimes my little wooden
Puppet feet fumbled over
The strings, but
You simply pulled them
Tighter.
"Dance."
Wake up.
And now I find it funny
That I all merely needed to
Wake up
Was to cut the strings.
