A Long Lost Friend
When I first saw you
I knew you were perfect,
up until you urinated
on the floor of Petsmart.
You already knew your name
Calvin, because that is
what you responded to
and you knew.
Then while I am sleeping
you checked on my sister
than me to make sure
we were ok before you went to bed.
After we moved to the bigger house
you were euphoric when you
learned you no longer needed to be chained
you ran all around the backyard.
But then you got K9 lymphoma
and tried to fight it for us.
Sadly you lost and knew when to die,
while me and my sister were away on vacation.
Than when we got a new dog
I learned that you were still alive
in a state of disembodiment.
When I awoke one night
to see you sitting at my door
looking eye to eye with Kona
than you got up turned around and
I
never
saw
you
again.
