River

I was so cold standing there

I felt like I was completely bare
`
I wished that I would suddenly melt

But Nature didn't care what I felt

I cried

I whined

I even cracked the surface

I stayed in the complete bleakness

I wished that I would suddenly melt

But Nature didn't care what I felt

Until one day Spring came

And I was free to reclaim

The land that had been lost to me

My teacher asked us to write a poem about personification and this idea came to me. I thought of a river because of how it flows in summer. But then I thought of how lonely and cold it was in the winter and how the river probably did not appreciate being frozen. This poem came to be shortly after this thought.
