In Want of Insomnia
One day I saw my eyes and woke up
From my past of lucid dreaming
And lived the way people do,
Day to day,
Life to death.
When I got old I didn’t want to sleep
Because I didn’t want to waste time,
Sleeping life away.
When I wake up
I think about sleeping
And the hours in the day
And the clock that’s ticking down.
I should stay awake
Because there has to be something left in the day
That I can’t miss
Because something might happen even if nothing’s happened so far.
I can’t go to sleep
Because the clock’s ticking down and
I don’t want to waste life sleeping.
