The Corridor of Portraits
The people roam devastated hallways,
Broken brushstrokes seep into spider web splinters
Splayed across shattered stones like
Bloodstained backs of fingers
Patrons of the mirrored filth, under fingernails
And doorframes, thrown askew by sick critique
Thinkers, posing with stone fists clenched,
Browse, between the walls of this terrible gallery.
Ceilings crumble to expose cynical stars
Tremendous awestruck paintings, frames of stale gold
Dust pallid oak beams, rings of ancient wooden giants
Still rush under the fingertips of those who appreciate
The arts.
