Suite of Memories to Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp
1.
I fell in love with a girl from Villanelle.
I fell in love with a girl I've known for years,
But have only just met.
She made me feel tall,
She made me feel small,
she made me feel just the right size
I fell in love with a girl from Farmington Hills.
I fell in love with a girl who wants me to stay,
and who I want to stay with.
She still has her young lover at home,
She still has my heart,
She still has the flowers and words we exchanged.
She was small,
She was tall,
She was just the right size for my arms.
2.
I met a boy who's thread on his oboe reed matched my favorite color.
I met a boy who made me feel less alone,
but I met him just a little to late.
I took pictures to commemorate,
we made a couple of bracelets too,
out of that perfectly hued thread.
Pictures,
Pictures and threads to commemorate my glasses on his face and a borrowed pair of socks.
3.
I lived in BP.
I walked through the trees,
to my world,
my world for just twelve days.
I loved for twelve days,
I laughed for twelve days,
I learned for twelve days,
I'll mourn for twelve months.
4.
We sing,
We Dance,
we play our hearts out,
we take on different roles,
we take clay, graphite and paint to heart,
and we never let go.
We have a substantial shoe on each foot,
just over that pair of white socks.
We have badges over our hearts,
reading out just who you are.
We had these blue polos, saturated in sweat, paint and unity.
5.
Camp songs never leave your heart,
neither do the faces,
or the names,
even if they leave your memory.
6.
Wi-Will, Will you go to the dance with me?
The trees above you,
the sand below you,
the lake to your right
and the picnic tables all the way against the wall to your left,
all of them seem to crowd around you,
not threateningly,but supportive.
them and the art you make are all you have for these twelve days,
and you're so glad they're there right now.
"yes"
Like you, they will never forget those words,
or any others.
7.
He said "breath".
I said "I'll breath on you".
She said "I love you".
I said "I love you too".
He said "good bye"
I said "I'm sorry".
I'll never forget her,
I'll never forget him,
and though he may never forgive me,
I'll still never forget him.
I know this place will never forget any of them,
just as it will never forget me.
8.
Some people say they want to go home,
Some people say this place is their home away from home,
But I never want to leave.
This is not a home away from home.
This is one hundred percent more my home than anything will ever be.
