She's Being Stubborn This Year
April wipes her muddy fingers on my face.
She’s being stubborn this year.
And selfish,
wiping filth on my face in hopes
that her winter stains will fade.
But she is only prolonging the feeling.
The feeling of
numb fingers
pink ears
and
bulky boots
April takes big bites out of my peaches,
She’s being stubborn this year.
And selfish
Draining the juice with each mouthful she takes,
forbidding me from tasting the sweetness,
taking big bites out of my peaches in hopes
that her winter brute will weaken.
And what she doesn’t realize is that April is for us,
not her,
Because she IS April
and she is only prolonging the feeling
The feeling of
sour fruit
pasty legs
and
dry strands of hair.
She’s being stubborn this year.
And selfish.
