Elegy for the Sandman
A white button clings to the translucent fabric of the starry sky
An adrenaline beat synchronizes with the wailing sirens in the distance
The sounds of roaring beasts shake the black concrete floor
With murky iron spears,
Charging madly into nothingness.
The white button pokes its eyes through the crack of the beaten and ripped curtains
Adrenaline muted by the screams of passing cars and lost minds
A candle illuminates the darkness, exposing the wounds of yesterday
The warm temptation wins
Dreaming shallow to the bruises.
The white button twists through the concrete into a labyrinth of glass shards
A misplaced, staggering, rhythm knocks on the dirt before the final pulse beats it
Sinking in the toxic ocean, the sandman is washed away…
And as the wind shakes it,
The dejected vessel departs into black.
The white button stares at the young man, who sits alone
Mind dancing to the rhythms that stream the deepest emotions into the atmosphere
The smell, the taste, the feeling, the vision, are all cast away
Into the sea they fall
In order to accurately measure the water’s toxicity
But eventually monsters fade…
And the white button falls away….
