Cautious Smiles and Perfect Partners
For years, we've gazed at each other,
Though always from afar,
Tip-toeing around the edges,
Cautious smiles lurking on our lips.
For years, we've been dancing,
Though always a few feet apart.
The perfect partner so close,
And yet so achingly far.
For years, we've stood opposite the wall.
But why must we still wait?
Why can we not be together?
Why can't be break down the wall?
For years, it's been the cautious smile,
And the perfect partner
That makes the possibility of "us"
Worth something, mean something.
For years, we've been apart,
Stepping lightly, waiting patiently.
But no longer.
It shall not continue.
Today, the wall will fall.
Today, we will dance.
Today, we will become one.
Today, we will become "us."
