Indefinite Insomnia MAG
You asked me: if I had to describe
Life, with just one analogy –
What would I choose?
I didn't answer then,
But now I think I've found it.
Life is being alone in your bed,
With an alarm set for the morning,
Trying to fall asleep; only
A million thoughts keep
Filling your head –
Agendas, tasks, words left unsaid
Your pillow is too hot, so
You flip it over, and minutes later,
You flip it over again.
Every time you look at the clock
You recalculate: how many hours
Of sleep you have left;
The less you have, the more awake
You suddenly feel, your brain
Dancing around fears that are still
So faraway.
Life is turning between the sheets,
Wrapping them around your legs,
Adjusting the way your ear
Fits against your pillow, again and
Again, counting sheep in desperation
Waiting for a few hours of peace.
